Schoenberger Faults House Leadership for Relief Funding Inaction

Rockland County Legislator Ilan Schoenberger (D-Suffern) issued the following statement on Thursday. 

“I am extremely disappointed in the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives for the failure to approve the bill that would provide relief to tens of thousands of residents and business owners in New York and New Jersey that suffered damages as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  In effect, leadership has turned their back on Rockland County and our two states. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Federal Government passed a bill appropriating $60 billion within ten days.  It has been approximately ten weeks since Hurricane Sandy and the Republican leadership has failed to act.  All Americans should be concerned with this inaction. I am hopeful that the Speaker will bring this to a vote, as is rumored.”

Schoenberger recently sponsored a resolution in support of a tax relief package proposed by U.S. Senators Charles Schumer (NY) and Robert Menendez (NJ) to aid individuals and businesses that suffered financial loss due to Hurricane Sandy.  The bill was approved in the Senate but not in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
