Town Orders Builder's Deposit be Used to Finish Work at New City House
Clarkstown: Contractor didn't complete required landscaping.
Clarkstown has decided to use funds held in escrow from a builder to perform landscaping work that was required as part of town approval for a New City house.
Town officials say Schoonmaker Homes LLC of Central Valley, N.Y., did not did complete installation of topsoil and plant seeds as required for the home built at 3 Kakiak Court in New City, near Lake Lucille. The Town Board voted this week to declare the builder in default and use $3,000 that was deposited in escrow to pay for completion of the work.
Clarkstown Code and Zoning Enforcement Officer Joel J. Epstein said the Town Board decision allows for the specific work required by the town to be done on the property. He said that after the work is paid for, any funds remaining from the escrow deposit would be returned to the contractor.
