Two Die In Rockland-Orange County Park When Car Drives Into Lake

Two individuals died this morning in Tuxedo when their vehicle ended up in Tiorati Lake.

A Chevy Blazer flipped and crashed into a lake in Tuxedo this morning, killing both people inside.

The accident took place at approximately 9 a.m. The driver and passenger—a male and female both believed to be in their 60s—were on Seven Lakes Drive when the incident occurred and ended up 12 feet underwater in Lake Tiorati. Lake Tiorati is part of Harriman State Park, which is located in Rockland and Orange counties.

Neither victim has been identified yet.

The Sloatsburg Fire Department Dive Team, along with the Tuxedo Fire Department and Stony Point Fire Department, responded to the incident.

The rescue authorities were able to remove the victims from the car—and their seatbelts–in under three minutes. Once they were transported to dry land, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Currently, State Police are investigating the incident, and parts of Seven Lakes Drive have been closed.
