United Hospice Names its First Medical Director

Dr. Judy C.Y. Lin on staff at Nyack and Good Samaritan hospitals.

United Hospice of Rockland has named Judy C.Y. Lin, M.D., as the New City-based organization's first full-time medical director.

Prior to joining UHR, Lin had a private practice as a general internist at Hudson Valley Medical Associates in Pomona.  She will continue to serve on the medical staffs of the Departments of Internal Medicine of both Nyack and Good Samaritan Hospitals, according to United Hospice of Rockland Executive Director Amy Stern. In the past she also practiced in Hackensack, N.J., and was Clinical Assistant in the Department of General Internal Medicine at Hackensack University Medical Center.

A resident of Airmont, Lin is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She earned her M.D. at the MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 2002.  Her internship and residency training in internal medicine was completed at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, a University Hospital of Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, in 2005.  Previous to her days in medicine, she was awarded an M.S. in Organic Chemistry from the University of California at Irvine, in 1996, and a B.S. in Chemistry from Yale University, in 1994.

Lin's interests in private practice included women's health, multisystemic illnesses, preventive healthcare, emotional health, and communicating with patients to ensure informed decision-making.  Her interests in hospice and palliative care are an extension of her training in internal medicine, and include aggressive symptom management, connecting patients and their families to the full range of services offered by UHR, and helping families through the many transitions involved with maximizing end-of- life care, according to Stern.

United Hospice of Rockland serves as a community resource for bereavement support, palliative care, and information about end of life issues, leading the health and human services community in improving the provision of care to those affected by serious illness. Founded in 1988, United Hospice of Rockland, a 401(c3) nonprofit corporation, is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and meets the Standards for Charity Accountability of the Better Business Bureau.
