Valedictorians at North, South Win National Merit Scholarships

Five other students take top honors.

Arielle Friehling and Justin Mathew, the valedictorians of Clarkstown North and South respectively, are both National Merit Scholarship Winners.

In addition, five Clarkstown students are winners of National Merit Scholarship Program collegiate and corporate awards.

South High School:
Timothy S. Kim - Collegiate (Washington University in St. Louis)
Daniel I. Schwartz - Collegiate (University of Florida)
Randall T. Tesser - Collegiate (Tufts University)

North High School:
Richard Wu - Corporate sponsored award
Jamie Etkind - Collegiate (Northwestern University)

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and by meeting entry and participation requirements.
