Volunteer Ambulance Corps Member Admits Theft
Pearl River man pleads guilty to stealing corps' credit card, spending nearly $900.

A Pearl River man has pleaded guilty in Rockland County Court in New City to stealing nearly $900 from a volunteer ambulance corps by using the organization's credit card to buy items including gas, cigarettes and coffee.
Joseph Schimmenti, 37, of 225 N. Middletown Road, has pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny and is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 17 by County Court Judge Charles Apotheker.
District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said that while Schimmenti was a volunteer for the Pearl River Ambulance Corps, between April and May 2010 he used a stolen Pearl River Ambulance Corps credit card to purchase fuel, cartons of cigarettes, coffee and assorted items that totaled $861.17.
