Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Pumpkin Picking Weekend

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Tree Planting
Volunteers are needed to plant trees and shrubs in the Sparkill Creek Watershed. Activities include digging holes, planting trees and shrubs, preparing support posts and fencing, and preparing protective plastic tubes around trees. Volunteers must be able to perform physical labor, carry up to 30 pounds, and wear durable shoes and clothing that can get dirty.

Pumpkin Picking Weekend
Enthusiastic volunteers will help make Muscoot Farm's annual Pumpkin Picking Weekend a success by assisting with hayrides, guiding families through the pumpkin-picking experience, supervising fun games and activities, and serving snacks and beverages at the refreshment stand. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to volunteers each day.
Date: 10/12-10/14 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Youth Mentors
Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister Youth Mentor is all about sharing simple activities with a child that become hallmark moments in their lives. It could be taking a hike, visiting the zoo, going apple picking or a walk in the park, playing basketball, or just grabbing a slice of pizza. Each can have profound life- and skill-building effects for the "Little."
