Herricks Appoints Assistant Superintendent

Elizabeth Guercin has 25 years as an educator under her belt.

The Herricks Public School District has appointed a new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

Elizabeth Guercin previously served as principal of Searingtown Elementary School for eight years. She also served as a teacher for the gifted at the District Community Center and Searingtown School from 2000 to 2005. Overall, she has 25 years as an educator under her belt.

“While I have been most proud of the strong academic curriculum at Searingtown and in Herricks, I have found it equally important to cultivate compassionate educators, empathic students and a community of individuals who take personal responsibility for themselves and others,” Guercin said to the Herricks School District. “I am fortunate to be in a district that espouses those same beliefs. These special attributes that couple academic rigor with compassionate education are uniquely ‘Herricks’ and are what I believe make our students so successful. I am grateful for the confidence that the Board of Education has placed in me and look forward to serving the needs of all Herricks students.”

Guercin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, Master’s Degrees from New York University and City College as well as a Professional Diploma in Educational Administration from Queens College. She is currently in the third year of a doctoral program at Hofstra University.

“Ms. Guercin has set a wonderful example as a strong, compassionate and communicative leader of students and staff at Searingtown School, involving all stakeholders, including parents, in the development of a shared vision for teaching and learning,” Herricks Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fino Celano said in the district's website. “She has also been invaluable to us through her work on committees, evaluations, professional development and her representation at educational conferences that has resulted in bringing 21st century cutting-edge instructional practices to our program. Her familiarity with Herricks will make for a smooth transition and I am proud to welcome her to the central administration team.”
