Looking Fur Love: Homes Sought For New Hyde Park Foster Cats
Give Me Shelter Project volunteers want a pair of lovable foster cats living in New Hyde Park to find homes for Valentine's Day.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — They are willing to commit furr-ever, but in the meantime, they just need a little TLC. Volunteers from the Give Me Shelter Project cat rescue are hoping to find permanent homes for Valentine’s Day for two lovable female cats being fostered in New Hyde Park.
First up is Madam FeFe, whose life has turned around after a tragic start. The 2-year-old tabby cat was found in a run-down neighborhood with her three kittens in the middle of a blizzard. She and the kittens were soaked and sick; she ended up with an upper respiratory tract infection, and her three kittens died.
Heather Mancuso of the Give Me Shelter Project in Forest Hills said Madam FeFe is a sweet but shy girl who does not like to be held but she is getting used to it. Madam Fefe would “love a family that will give her time to come out of her shell,” Mancuso said. “She follows her foster around like a dog and is a diva who loves to head-butt for attention.”

She is currently being housed at Petsmart in New Hyde Park.
Then there is Lucy Lu, a lap cat who is at least 8 years old and likes to be held, petted and rubbed on her tummy — which is rare for a cat. Lu, who has only has two teeth due to a previous medical issue, is staying in a foster home in New Hyde Park.

Both cats have been fully vetted and have tested negative for feline immunodeficiency virus and the deadly feline leukemia virus.
