New Hyde Park Bluedevils 15U Keep Hold on First Place
New Hyde Park team sweeps doubleheader against Long Island Hawks.
The New Hyde Park Bluedevils 15U team remains in first place with a week to go in the 2013 regular season with a sweep over the Long Island Hawks (10-0 and 8-1).
In game one Kyle Cajigas pitched 5 innings of no-hit ball while striking out seven for the win. The Bluedevils jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the first inning. Dylan Savarese and Ray Close started the inning off with back-to-back walks and Cajigas delivered the first run with a single to centerfield. After Cajigas stole second, Liam Gallagher delivered the next two runs with a line shot to right field. John Hayes followed with another walk and Anthony Pomara finished the scoring driving in Gallagher and Hayes for the 5-0 lead.
The Bluedevils added a run in the second, Brandon LaFroscia scored from third on a bunt single by Savarese. The game came to an end in the bottom of the fifth, when Doug Obidienzo walked and Matt Gorman followed with a single, LaFroscia reached on an E6 to load the bases. Savarese drove home his third run with a bases loaded walk to set the stage for Cajigas. Kyle Cajigas drove a pitch to the deepest part of the park to drive in all three runs for the final score of 10-0.

In game two John Hayes matched zeros with the opposing pitcher until the Bluedevils broke on top in their half of the fourth. Ray Close walked stole second base and was sacrificed to third by Savarese. After a strikeout leaving a runner on third with two outs, Kyle Cajigas delivered a two hit for a 1-0 lead.
The Bluedevils added some cushion in the sixth as Niko Rullo and Doug Obidienzo hit back-to-back singles and then Matt Gorman drilled a pitch over the center fielders head for a two run triple. Close walked and Savarese drove home Gorman with a fielder's choice, setting the stage for Mike Thornton who hit a towering homerun to right to complete the scoring.

In the seventh the Bluedevils added some more runs when LaFroscia tripled, John Hayes walked, Pomara bunt single and Niko Rullo tripled in all three runs for the winning margin of 8-1. Hayes pitched six solid innings for the win, giving up one run, 3 hits and striking out six. Liam Gallagher came on in the seventh to close out the win for the Bluedevils who still stand in first place with an 18-4 record.
