Temperatures are going to peak in the low 90s on Friday and in the high 80s on Saturday, leading to heat index values between 95 and 101 degrees. Because of that, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all of Nassau and for western Suffolk County.
According to forecasters, a heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
Due to lingering high temperatures, the state has also issued an air quality advisory for all of Long Island.
Rain is likely to hit the area Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, which will help cool things off a bit. There's also rain predicted for Sunday.
