Woman Found Dead By Asphyxiation In Nassau Homicide: Police

She was found unconscious and not breathing with facial burns, police say.

HERRICKS, NY — A woman was found dead by asphyxiation at a Herricks home Friday, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the incident took place on Larch Drive at 3:52 p.m. Officers responded to the address for a well check and discovered a 46-year-old woman who was unconscious and not breathing, with apparent facial burns, police said.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Nassau County police medic, authorities said.

The woman has been identified as Aleena Asif, of Herricks, police said.

The medical examiner has determined the death to be a criminal homicide due to asphyxiation by an unknown chemical substance, police said. Further testing is to be done by the medical examiner's office; the investigation is ongoing, police said.
