10-To-12-Week Con Ed Gas Project In Downtown Rye Starts Next Week

Con Ed and the City of Rye announced that on Monday, the long-awaited gas main replacement in the Central Business District will start.

RYE, NY — Traffic woes might get worse before they get better, but there's now a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

Con Ed and the City of Rye announced that on Mon., Jan. 3, the long-awaited gas main replacement in the Central Business District Area will begin.

The project is estimated to take 10 - 12 weeks and will take place along Purchase St., between Purdy Ave. and Locust Ave., resulting in disruptions.

While the street will remain open (one-way), on-street parking will be gone during the project and there may be occasional closures.

Con Ed says it is working to minimize the inconvenience, but residents and businesses are asked to be aware of possible delays and parking impacts.

The work will take place from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturdays. It is possible that work will have have to extend past 5 p.m. on some days.

Con Ed will be providing traffic control, with assistance from the Rye Police Department. During the project, the city will maintain additional police officers downtown.
