20-Year-Old Admits To Slashing Victim's Face From Behind On The Street In Newburgh
The Orange County District Attorney's Office will recommend an eight-year prison sentence for the "unspeakably violent" act.
CITY OF NEWBURGH, NY — Fallout continues following a dispute that culminated in a life-altering act of violence in the Hudson Valley.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that 20-year-old Dave Fulford, of Newburgh, pleaded guilty on Dec. 8, to first-degree attempted assault. Prosecutors will recommend he be sentenced to eight years in prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision, when he is sentenced on February 17.
According to court documents, on Sept. 3, around 7:40 p.m., Fulford ran up to the victim from behind on Van Ness Street, in the City of Newburgh, and slashed him once on the face with a sharp object.

The victim received a large laceration that required stitches. Fulford later admitted to the police that he slashed the victim. During plea proceedings, Fulford admitted to attempting to cause serious physical injury using a dangerous instrument.
"This defendant's admitted conduct is unspeakably violent," Hoovler said. "Petty disagreements should never be settled by way of life altering acts of violence. The thorough investigation completed by police in this case ensured that this defendant was held to account for his crimes. The City of Newburgh will be safer while this offender is serving the significant sentence anticipated."

Hoovler thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Fulford.
