Update: All County Beaches Allowed To Re-Open For Labor Day Weekend
Playland Beach and Surf Club Beach were allowed to reopen based on additional water testing, according to the health department.

UPDATE: On September 1, the Westchester County Health Department determined that all county beaches, including Playland Beach and Surf Club Beach, were safe to reopen for the Labor Day Weekend.
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — There is good news and bad news regarding the bacteriological results of Wednesday's beach water samples.
Six Sound Shore beaches in Westchester County that were ordered closed earlier this week, were allowed to re-open Thursday afternoon due to bacteriological testing on Wednesday, according to the Westchester County Department of Health.

However, two beaches remain closed until further notice, based on the results. Health department officials have sent out a third water sample in the hopes of being able to open those two beaches for the Labor Day weekend.
The county's Beach Surveillance Program is designed to protect the public from illnesses associated with swimming in waters that are contaminated.

Due to high bacterial counts, the following beaches are still closed:
Playland Beach (Rye)Surf Club (New Rochelle)
The following beaches were allowed to re-open Thursday afternoon:
- Rye Town Park Beach (Rye)
- Beach Point Club (Mamaroneck)
- Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club (Mamaroneck)
- Glen Island VIP Club (New Rochelle)
- Davenport Beach Club (New Rochelle)
- Greentree Club (New Rochelle)
Heavy rainfall in the watershed of the Mamaroneck River impacts the water quality in Mamaroneck Harbor. Similarly, Echo Bay in New Rochelle is affected which impacts Hudson Park Beach and the Echo Bay Yacht Club.
Decisions to close beaches are based on the number of inches of rain in the watershed. Heavy rains and discharges from stormwater drains may result in high levels of harmful bacteria that may cause illness.
In addition, the following beaches are closed until further notice due to an observed harmful algae bloom within the regulated swim area:
- Mohegan Colony Association Beach, Yorktown
- Mohegan Beach Park District, Yorktown
- Lake Purdy’s P.O.A. Beach, Somers (T)
