9 LI Sound Beaches Ordered Closed By Health Department

Health officials said heavy rains over the past 24 hours led to the decisions to preemptively bar swimming.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — The Westchester County Health Department has closed nine Long Island Sound beaches preemptively.

The closures for Wednesday were ordered because of heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours.

In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club, and Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club are closed to swimmers.

In Rye, the Coveleigh Club beach is closed.

In New Rochelle, closures affect Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Club, Greentree Club and Surf Club.

In addition, the two county-regulated beaches that were previously closed earlier this week due to algae bloom on Mohegan Lake remain closed:
