9 Sound Shore Beaches Ordered Closed To Swimmers After Heavy Overnight Rains
Health officials say the beaches may reopen on their own on Saturday, unless there is significant rainfall in the meantime.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Health officials have ordered Long Island Sound beaches closed to swimmers after overnight rains raised health concerns.
The Westchester County Department of Health preemptively closed the beaches Friday due to 0.97 inches of rainfall over the past 24 hours; but officials say the beaches may reopen on their own on Saturday, unless there is significant rainfall in the meantime.
In New Rochelle, Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club and the Surf Club on the Sound are closed.

In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club and the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club have been closed to swimmers.
In Rye, the Coveleigh Club has been ordered to close.

Swimmers are being advised to avoid the water today due to bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near these beaches. The beaches can reopen Saturday because there was less than two inches of rainfall, according to public health officials.
