Beaches In Westchester Ordered Closed 'Until Further Notice' As Heat Wave Moves In
The Westchester County Health Department ordered 2 LI Sound beaches closed to swimmers due to bacteriological results.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — As a potentially record-breaking heat wave threatens to smother the Hudson Valley, the Westchester County Health Department has ordered a handful of popular beaches to close to bathers over safety concerns.
Hudson Park East Beach in New Rochelle and Harbor Island beach in Mamaroneck have been closed until further notice after 2 separate samples, collected on June 16 and June 18, exceeded safe bacteria levels.
In addition, hot temperatures helped contribute to a toxic algae bloom that has two other Westchester beaches remaining closed to swimmers.

Earlier this month, the Westchester County Health Department closed two Mohegan Lake beaches until further notice to protect the public from contact with a Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) in the swim areas at the Mohegan Colony Association and the Mohegan Beach Park District.
These are the only county-regulated beaches on Mohegan Lake.

The county's Beach Surveillance Program is designed to protect the public from illnesses associated with swimming in waters that are contaminated.
