Brush Fire Causes Suspension Of Some Hudson Valley Amtrak Service

If your Metro-North New Haven Line ride home seems extra crowded this evening, there's a good reason for it.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A wildfire in the Bronx is disrupting Amtrak service between Penn Station and New Haven.

"Reports of a brush fire east of New York Penn Station (NYP) have caused power loss for trains in the area, impacting rail travel between New York Penn Station (NYP) and New Haven (NHV)," Amtrak said in a statement. "All services between New York Penn Station (NYP) and New Haven (NHV) are suspended for the remainder of the day. Limited services will be available between Boston South Station (BOS) and New Haven (NHV)."

Amtrak said that passengers traveling between New York to New Haven are being encouraged to take Metro-North Railroad, which will be honoring Amtrak tickets during the disruption. Customers will need to board Metro-North Railroad services at New York Grand Central Station. The catch is passengers will need to find their own transportation from Penn Station to Grand Central.

"Trains approaching Penn Station are being moved out of the area at reduced speeds using diesel-powered engines," Amtrak said. "Currently, there is no estimate for when normal operations will resume."
