Bulldog Strangulation, Dismemberment Case Ends In Guilty Plea

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Connecticut man has admitted to horrific animal abuse, brutally killing a friend's pet.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that 40-year-old Benjamin Tyler, of New Milford, Connecticut, pleaded guilty on Monday to felony aggravated cruelty to animals, for the killing and dismembering of an English bulldog named Bruno.

On December 6, a 41-year-old New Rochelle man reported to police that his pure-bred English bulldog, Bruno, had been taken and killed by Tyler, a longtime acquaintance who was temporarily staying at his apartment. He claimed that Tyler had not only taken Bruno but also dismembered him and disposed of the remains in various garbage locations around New Rochelle.

Tyler is expected to be sentenced to one year of jail on Sept. 8.

"The defendant's conduct in this case is sickening beyond comprehension," Cacace said. "He will soon have time to reflect on the depravity of his actions from the Westchester County Jail. Cruelty to animals will never be tolerated under my administration."

The investigation was conducted by the New Rochelle Police Department with the assistance of SPCA Westchester.
