Bystander Stepped In To Help Save Motorcycle Rider After Crash

After a wreck between a motorcycle and a utility truck seriously injured the 60-year-old rider, a witness sprang into action.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Quick thinking by a witness to the result of a brutal crash helped save a motorcycle rider who was seriously hurt

On Wednesday, just after 2:10 p.m., New Rochelle police were called to North Avenue and Mayflower Avenue for the crash involving a motorcycle and a utility work van.

The motorcyclist was left in serious condition with a severe injury to his left leg. A passerby who witnessed the accident quickly rendered aid and applied pressure to the injury. Police on scene then applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

The motorcyclist, a 60-year-old New Rochelle man, was taken to Jacobi Hospital by ambulance to undergo surgery to his left leg and is currently listed in stable condition, according to police. The driver of the utility work van was not injured.

The accident is being investigated by the New Rochelle Police Department Traffic Unit. North Avenue, between 5th Avenue and Eastchester Road, was cordoned off for approximately 3 hours to traffic following the crash.
