Early Morning Slashing At Main Street Gas Station Sends 1 To Hospital

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A night out turned violent when a New Rochelle man was attacked on his way home from a local watering hole.

The New Rochelle Police Department says that officers responded to a gas station at the intersection of Main St. and Woodland Ave. on Monday, around 3:25 a.m., after reports of an assault.

Once on the scene, officers found a 27-year-old man who told them he had been walking home from the Drake Main Café, when he encountered two men entering the gas station.

A verbal argument took place, which then escalated into a physical attack. One of the suspects slashed the victim across the face with a scalpel, causing a severe laceration that required stitches. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he is now recovering.

Detectives quickly developed leads on a possible suspect vehicle. With the help of the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center, police were able to track and locate the vehicle later that morning.

With the vehicle information, detectives were able to apprehend the primary suspect, who police believe carried out the slashing. Tyreek Brown, 29, of the Bronx, is currently in custody, and was charged with felony second-degree assault, according to the latest from police.

The second suspect involved in the altercation has been identified, and police are working to determine his role, if any, in the incident.
