Erin's Effects Cause Health Officials To Order 9 Sound Shore Beaches Closed To Swimmers
The beaches will remain closed Thursday and Friday, but may be permitted to reopen on Saturday, according to the department of health.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Health officials have closed nine of the Sound Shore beaches as Hurricane Erin passed along the Atlantic seaboard bringing heavy rains to our region.
The Westchester County Health Department has closed the beaches preemptively for Friday because of 1.21 inches of rainfall over the last 24 hours.
In New Rochelle, Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club and the Surf Club on the Sound are closed.

In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club and the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club have been closed to swimmers.
In Rye, the Coveleigh Club has been ordered to close.

Swimmers are advised to avoid the water today due to bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near these beaches. Barring more rain, the beaches can reopen Saturday because there was less than two inches of rainfall, according to public health officials.
