Manzueta was behind the wheel of a Penske truck linked to a cooking oil theft at an Applebee's, according to authorities. Manzueta, who was 21 at the time, deliberately swerved at Lieutenant Robert Burgess on Aug. 26, according to police.
The lieutenant had attempted to stop the truck after Manzueta eluded police in a chase the day before, according to police.

Mazueta intentionally crashed into a tractor-trailer and another vehicle on I-95 before hitting Burgess who was outside his vehicle trying to deploy devices to puncture the truck's tires and stop it, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The policeman was thrown 65 feet across lanes of traffic. Burgess was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore in critical condition, according to the sheriff.
Burgess spent 11 days at Shock Trauma. He suffered a broken arm, dislocated shoulder, 17 broken ribs, a laceration above his eye and on the back of his head, and a semi-collapsed right lung.
Manzueta eluded authorities on foot and called a woman in New York who drove to the Delaware travel plaza to pick him up. A multi-state manhunt led to Manzueta being identified and tracked to an apartment in New Rochelle. A smashed cell phone found in the truck and GPS tracking information from Penske helped police identify his whereabouts.
Manzueta was taken into custody on multiple charges, including first- and second-degree assault and attempted second-degree murder.
Manzueta declined to waive extradition. After several weeks of legal proceedings, he was returned to Maryland to face trial. On Friday, he was processed into the Harford County Detention Center, where he remains held without bail.
