Giants Legend David Tyree Trades Tales With Iona Prep Fathers & Sons
The star receiver's legendary "helmet catch" helped earn a Super Bowl ring and will live in sports history forever.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New York Giants legend David Tyree made a special guest appearance at the Iona Prep Father-Son Breakfast.
Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle hosted former New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree at their annual Father-Son Breakfast on Sunday. The full house at the Willima J. Tully Gymnasium in New Rochelle had a little extra excitement this year with the arrival of the hometown sports hero.

Speaking to more than 300 boys, dads, uncles, and grandfathers, Tyree spoke about what it was like to live nearly every kid's Super Bowl fantasy. He also talked about his personal journeys of faith and family that helped him to reach the pinnacle of his profession. And of course, he told the firsthand account of the famous "helmet catch" that brought home the Lombardi trophy in Super Bowl XLII. Tyree's iconic catch in the final two minutes of the big game in 2008 will forever have a place is sports history. Against all odds, the ball was trapped between his hands and his helmet ensuing a Giant's victory.
The Father-Son Breakfast first began as a community builder nearly 60 years ago with former Giants owner and Iona Prep parent Wellington T. Mara getting his players to attend the breakfast when his four sons attended Iona Prep in the seventies. Previous speakers have included Marcus McKethan and Elerson Smith (2023), Xavier McKinney (2022), Rhett Ellison (2019), Darian Thompson (2018), Will Tye (2017), Zak DeOssie (2016) and Devon Kennard (2015).

Mara famously used to sit with his friend, Michael A. Ward on "The Hill" between the field now bearing his name and the school, watching Gaels football.
