Humane Society of Westchester Holds Fundraiser to Support Adoptions

Casino Night Fundraiser October 10 will support rehabilitation, training and adoptions for over 1,000 local dogs & cats taken in each year

(New Rochelle NY) – September 26, 2024 – Some days are tough for staff and volunteers at the Humane Society of Westchester.

The New Rochelle based shelter takes in hundreds of animals each year from 19 communities across Westchester. Many have, sadly, been abandoned, neglected and, even worse, horribly abused.

It takes commitment, love and resources like medical care, rehabilitation and training to restore these pets and find them loving homes. But when they do find homes, it is a joyful occasion that makes up for all the tears cried over so much animal suffering. .

“Every time we save an animal and place them in a loving home, it helps to make up for the bad days and reinforces how important the work we do is,’’ said HSW Executive Director Lee Anne Veley. “I can’t even describe the condition that some of these animals arrive in. It’s heartbreaking. But every adoption is a validation for us. We need the support of the communities where these animals come from. They are all local cats and dogs brought to us for care. Every dollar we raise allows us to pay for surgeries, treatment, medications and training to ready these animals for adoption.’’

On October 10 from 6- 10 pm, the Humane Society of Westchester will hold its annual “It’s All About the Animals” Casino Night to raise funds for the shelter. It will be a fun-filled evening with casino games including blackjack, roulette and craps. There will be entertainment, food, a silent auction and some special guests and surprises. Casey Cronan of Harrison can attest to the work HSW does. It united her with the “love of her life” her new dog Latke-Latke. The hound mix was found in Elmsford emaciated, limping and vomiting plastic. With some loving care and some training, Latke-Latke found his forever home. He and Casey could not be more grateful.

The Humane Society of Westchester, founded in 1911 as the New Rochelle Humane Society, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the human/animal bond through the compassionate care and treatment of animals throughout the communities we serve in Westchester County and beyond. To that end, our goal is to create a living environment that is not just a shelter, but a transitional home for stray, lost, abandoned, injured, and abused animals, until they can ultimately be placed in loving permanent homes.

We service 19 communities in Westchester County including Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Greenburgh, Harrison, Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Larchmont, Town of Mamaroneck, Village of Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Port Chester, Rye Brook, City of Rye and Tarrytown.
