NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona students have already proven they look good in maroon and gold, but they now have a chance to think about making the move to a more monochrome-driven wardrobe.

Iona University announced a partnership with the United States Secret Service that will include campuswide recruitment sessions for Iona students and other college students from across the Hudson Valley to help expedite the hiring process.

Secret Service agents spoke to six criminal justice classes on campus last week about career opportunities available at the agency as well as agency requirements and responsibilities. The special agents recounted their own academy experiences, providing valuable insights and advice so students are well-prepared for the rigorous and sometimes daunting application process.

"The Secret Service is excited to partner with Iona University as we work to recruit the next generation of Secret Service agents, officers and professionals," Special Agent in Charge of the Secret Service New York Field Office Patrick J. Freaney said. "Our goal for this partnership is to provide students with the insight and information they need to jumpstart a career with the Secret Service."

College seniors are eligible to apply now. Students can visit USAjobs.gov or contact the Career Center for the latest list of vacancies. Underclassmen will also be made aware of the agency's requirements and policies early in their college career to make sure they're ready when their time comes.

The Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development will also offer guidance to interested students throughout the entire application process.

The Secret Service will return in the Spring 2024 semester to host additional recruitment sessions and administer interviews, written examinations, and a fitness test. Applicants from the Hudson Valley will be welcomed to visit Iona University’s New Rochelle campus.

"We are excited to partner and serve as a recruiting hub for the Secret Service and see it as a great fit for some of our students and the agency," Assistant VP for Enrollment Management and Career Initiatives at Iona Matthew Cardin said. "We look forward to seeing the placements that will come from this partnership overtime."
