Iona Offers Free Admission To NCAA Basketball Action For Neighbors

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Big-time college basketball is starting to heat up as "March Madness" creeps every inch closer. Lucky for those of us in Westchester County, sometimes it pays to be a local.

Those lucky enough to live close to big-time NCAA basketball programs don't always have the chance to see their sports heroes in person, but in the Hudson Valley, the dream is not only within reach — it also comes free of charge.

Two upcoming games are included in the annual end-of-year thank you to hometown fans.

• Iona Women's Basketball vs. Niagara on Thurs., 12/29 at 6 p.m.
• Iona Men's Basketball vs. Saint Peter's: Sun., 1/1 at 4 p.m.

The university said seats typically sell out at the Hynes Athletics Center while Iona students are on campus, but since everyone is home for the holidays, Iona takes this opportunity each year at winter break to open up the action to friends and neighbors.

NCAA aficionados around the globe have watched them in primetime, but here is a chance to cheer on the Gaels live and in person. The Iona Women's team will face Niagara in cross-state revelry on Thursday. The Iona Men's basketball team is undefeated at home and will be looking to continue their winning streak on New Year's Day when they go head-to-head with Saint Peter's.

This game is open to all. Both games will take place at Iona University's Hynes Athletics Center, located at 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle.
