Potential Nor'easter Could Mean Rain, Wind In The HV Weekend Forecast
Remnants from a Super Typhoon could mean a weekend washout in some forecasts; other experts are calling for just rain.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — In yet another string of soggy weekends, some experts are forecasting what could amount to a nor'easter soaking the Hudson Valley area this weekend.
According to an Accuweather forecast, a "significant storm" could be brewing for the Northeast this weekend, possibly leading to flash flooding and coastal concerns.
Remnants of Super Typhoon Bolaven, which hit the northwestern United States recently, could mean a "big dip in the jet stream over the eastern states," according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

A storm could form along the Carolina coast and head north, Accuweather added, one that could evolve into a "potent nor’easter and produce a zone of heavy rain, strong winds and building seas," according to AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno.
But the experts are not in complete agreement on the weekend's weather. Others say the forecast might not involve what's considered a nor'easter — although rain is definitely on the way.

John Cristantello, meteorologist for the National Weather Service office in Upton, weighed in: "We do think that rain is going to be likely," he said. "But I wouldn't classify this as a potential nor'easter."
Cristantello said an area of lower pressure is slated to approach the area from the west.
While there is "no official definition of a nor'easter," Cristantello said a nor'easter typically involves a weather pattern offshore, which remains offshore and passes to the east, bringing strong winds and rain. Nor'easters are typically seen in the area during the fall to early spring, he said.
Still, Cristantello agrees that the weekend will be rainy, with precipitation likely Friday night into Saturday morning, and conditions improving late in the day Saturday and into Sunday, which should be "much better," he said.
