WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — No one was seriously injured in a hair-raising collision on the Hutchinson River Parkway over the holidays, but the New York State Department of Transportation is using the multi-car crash as a teachable moment.

The state agency is hoping that releasing footage captured of the high-speed collision, involving a NYSDOT "H.E.L.P truck" that was assisting a disabled motorist, will serve as a wakeup call for all of us.

"This video serves as a reminder that it only takes a second to lose control and crash. Slow down and stay alert when you see flashing lights," NYSDOT officials said in a statement accompanying the footage that was released on social media. "Both the HELP Truck driver and motorist were treated for minor injuries, but it could have been much worse."

The 20-second-long video appears to show a motorist on the Hutch lose control, before slamming into the rear of the HELP truck parked off to the side of the road. The aftermath of the crash makes the fact that no one involved was seriously injured all the more remarkable.
