Severe Weather, Flood Threat Will Hit The Hudson Valley: NWS

A sweltering Tuesday will also see powerful storms, and heavy rains move through our area, according to the National Weather Service.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for much of the Hudson Valley on Tuesday.

The watch is in effect from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m. when showers and thunderstorms along a slow-moving cold front arrive this afternoon and evening. The system may produce torrential downpours, according to the NWS.

The slow-moving frontal boundary will interact with a tropical air mass to bring showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, according to the NWS. Locally heavy rainfall is possible and rainfall rates in some parts of the region may be near, or exceed, 2 inches per hour at times. The heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding.

A Heat Advisory is already in effect from noon until 8 p.m. this evening for the region.

Health officials are recommending that those in the Hudson Valley drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Those who must be outdoors should take extra precautions, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Officials say to try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. And most importantly, take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
