Slippery Spill On I-95 Causes 23 Vehicles To Crash In New Rochelle

Traffic was tied up Wednesday morning for more than two hours because the spill that covered about a mile.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A multi-vehicle crash tied up traffic on Interstate 95 Wednesday morning in New Rochelle.

The New York State Police said, around 6:45 a.m, there were reported of several multi-car crashes on I-95 northbound in New Rochelle.

A preliminary investigation found that a tractor trailer leaked about 100 gallons of an unknown substance onto the roadway, causing extremely slippery conditions.

Police said 21 passenger cars and two tractor trailers were involved in a series of crashes due to the spill, which occurred over a 1-mile span.

Seven people were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to authorities.

The New Rochelle Fire Department and Thruway maintenance responded to assist the state police with cleanup of the spill.

Police said that all lanes were reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
