Suspect Arrested In Disturbing Westchester Dog Killing, Dismembering

He had been temporarily staying with an acquaintance in New Rochelle before taking the dog and brutally killing it.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Police Department, working with local ASPCA officers, have concluded an investigation into a particularly gruesome case of animal cruelty, resulting in the arrest of a suspect.

On December 6, a 41-year-old New Rochelle man reported to police that his dog had been taken and killed by an acquaintance who was temporarily staying at his apartment. He claimed that 39-year-old Benjamin Tyler, of New Milford, Connecticut, had not only taken the dog but also dismembered it and disposed of the remains in various garbage locations around New Rochelle.

An investigation by NRPD detectives and ASPCA officers led to the acquisition of an arrest warrant for Tyler.

On Monday, Tyler turned himself in to the New Rochelle Police Department, and is currently in custody. He was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

New Rochelle police say that they would like to remind the public that animal cruelty is a serious crime and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They encourage the public to report any suspected cases of animal abuse or neglect to local law enforcement or animal welfare organizations.
