Suspected Shooter Arrested In Heritage House Slaying

The man New Rochelle police believe was the triggerman in Monday's killing turned himself in today, marking the 4th arrest in the case.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The man police believe fired the shot that killed 22-year-old David Smith has turned himself in to authorities.

The New Rochelle Police Department said that Ali Mohammed was taken into custody on Wednesday after an intense search and investigation.

NRPD detectives said the suspect turned himself in with the assistance of concerned community members. The Mount Vernon 21-year-old, who police believe to be the gunman in the fatal shooting, joins the three previously arrested suspects already in custody.

On Monday, at 10:49 a.m., New Rochelle police received reports of shots fired. At the scene, officers discovered 22-year-old David Smith, from Mount Vernon, who had multiple gunshot wounds to his chest.

Officers provided emergency medical aid until Smith was taken to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

NRPD detectives identified several persons of interest and brought them to police headquarters for questioning, according to officials. They also apprehended another suspect later when he sought medical treatment in the Bronx, for a gunshot wound to his hand.

Investigators say preliminary information suggests that the shooter and the victim knew each other, and that the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Police added that the nature of the dispute remains unknown.

Police have now confirmed four arrests in connection to the case, including Mohammed, who is charged with second degree murder and felony weapon possession.

Marquis Williamson, 21, of Newark, and Amiri Oneal, 21, of Mount Vernon, have been charged with second degree murder.

Anthony Webster, 20, of Mount Vernon, is facing felony weapons charges as a result of the investigation.
