Teenager Arrested In Gunpoint Robbery Steps From Waterfront Park: NRPD

The teen stole a cellphone and wallet, then fled to the nearby Harbor House apartments on Monday night, New Rochelle police said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police have arrested a teenage boy in connection to a mugging at a popular New Rochelle waterfront park.

The New Rochelle Police Department said that officers received a report of a robbery on Davenport Avenue, near the waterfront, on Monday night, around 8:37 p.m.

Officers who responded to the scene found a victim who told them he had been approached on foot by an assailant who engaged him in conversation before pulling out a gun and stealing his cellphone and wallet.

The victim described the suspect as male with dreadlocks and glasses.

After an investigation of the incident, police developed leads that led them to an apartment at the Harbor House Apartments on Davenport Avenue.

Police found a .32 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun, in addition to the victim's stolen cellphone and wallet, linking the suspect directly to the crime.

The juvenile, whose name was not given due to his age, was arraigned virtually and is currently in custody at Woodfield Cottage in Valhalla, facing charges of felony first-degree robbery and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The New Rochelle Police Department says they are "committed to ensuring the safety of our community and will continue to investigate any additional leads related to this incident."
