Torrential Overnight Rains Lead To 9 LI Sound Beach Closure Orders
The Westchester County Health Department has ordered 9 beaches located in Rye, New Rochelle and Mamaroneck closed to bathers.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Health officials have closed a handful of Sound Shore beaches after torrential rains moved through the region.
The Westchester County Health Department has closed the beaches preemptively for Wednesday because of 0.67 inches of rainfall over the last 24 hours.
In New Rochelle, Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club and the Surf Club on the Sound are closed.

In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club and the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club have been closed to swimmers.
In Rye, the Coveleigh Club has been ordered to close.

Beach patrons are advised to avoid the water today due to bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near these beaches. The beaches can reopen tomorrow, according to county officials.
