HUDSON VALLEY, NY — With extreme winter weather headed for the Hudson Valley starting Saturday, here's the very latest timeline of what to expect.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for parts of Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties from 7 p.m. Saturday until noon on Sunday.

The latest forecast is calling for higher snowfall totals than initially expected.

Heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations between 7 and 11 inches. The heaviest snows are expected to the north.

Travel could be difficult, according to the NWS. Forecasters predict snow will increase in intensity Saturday evening with snowfall rates at an inch an hour. The snow will taper off Sunday morning.

Avoiding travel is advised, if possible. The NWS recommends that those who must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in the vehicle in case of an emergency.

Temperatures could drop into the low 20s in some areas.

For Southern Westchester, a winter weather advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. Snow and sleet are expected, with accumulations between 3 and 5 inches, and a light glaze of ice also possible, the NWS said.

Snow is expected to begin across the Sound Shore in the early evening — with the heaviest of the snowfall expected between 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. or midnight. Then, the snow will turn into a wintry mix and end as a freezing drizzle Sunday morning, according to the forecast. Temperatures are expected to reach about 35 degrees Sunday morning

While conditions are expected to improve by kickoff time of the big game, a new storm system is slated to move toward the area sometime during the middle of next week, possibly bringing a new round of snow to the Hudson Valley.
