Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Children's Book Festival

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Chappaqua Children's Book Festival
The Chappaqua Children's Book Festival is an annual family-friendly event that is free and open to the public. Books are available for purchase and proceeds support literacy programs throughout Westchester County. More than 100 volunteers are needed to help set up the festival; provide assistance to festival attendees, authors, and illustrators; and even dress up in costume to entertain the kids. Volunteers are needed the day before the festival (September 26) as well as the day of (September 27). Volunteers may sign up for more than one time slot.

Run For Recovery
The 11th Annual Run for Recovery raises awareness and celebrates recovery from substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Volunteers are needed to help set up and break down the event; distribute T-shirts, water, and snacks; cheer on runners and walkers; and take photos. This is perfect for groups, families, and volunteers 14+.
Date: 9/27 from 7:15-11 a.m.

Website Designer
ReSET Westchester's mission is to welcome and ensure that new refugees have a safe home and are prepared to lead productive and independent lives. The organization is seeking a volunteer with experience in website design to help update its website, including making the site more visually appealing, inclusive, straightforward, and user-friendly with the ability to navigate among different interfaces.

Household Essentials Packing and Distribution
New Beginnings of Westchester is a nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless individuals, single-parent households, and families transitioning into permanent housing. It offers essential basic household supplies that help its clients establish a stable, dignified home life. Volunteers are needed to assist with packing and distributing household essentials, including bed linens, towels, dishes, silverware, and cookware.
