Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Fall Book Sale Helpers
Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.
This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
IKEA Pick-Up Crew
Each Friday, United Way staff and a volunteer will travel to IKEA locations in Brooklyn and Long Island to pick up donated home goods. The volunteer will help load items into cargo vans, return to the United Way office in White Plains, and package donations for distribution to local nonprofit partners serving those in need. Volunteers do not need to drive, but they must be able to lift and carry items weighing 20-25 pounds. Volunteers must be 18+.
Date: 10/10-12/19 (Fridays) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Fall Book Sale
Warner Library is seeking volunteers to help with its annual Fall Book Sale. Volunteers can set up tables and tents, as well as carry and organize boxes of books. This is the perfect opportunity for student groups or colleagues who want to enjoy a fun teambuilding activity. Community service credit provided if needed!

Fall Community Cleanups
Help keep Rye sparkling clean by picking up trash and debris and clearing invasive vines. Volunteers should bring their own trash-grabbers, gloves, pruners, trowels, shears, spades, and anything else that may help with the cleanup. Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, bug spray, and sunscreen, and bring your own filled, reusable hydration bottles.
Date: 10/18 from 9-11 a.m.; registration closes on 10/17

High School Student Chess Players
DOROT's Intergenerational Chess Program brings high school students and older adults together to share the joy of chess. Whether seasoned players or if this is their first time picking up a pawn, teens will find a supportive environment where everyone can grow. All experience levels are welcome and a chess master will provide support and instruction. High school students will receive community service hours. Volunteers must be able to commit to all eight sessions.
Date: 10/22-12/17 (select Wednesdays) from 4:30-6 p.m.; registration closes on 10/20

Diaper Drive
Volunteers are needed to collect diapers in all sizes, as well as diaper wipes, to donate to 914Cares' Diaper Drive. This is the perfect opportunity for families, businesses, schools, houses of worship, and individuals.
