Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Spring Clean-Up and Planting

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Program Support Volunteer
Latino U College Access (LUCA) empowers first-generation students on their journeys to and through college so they can fulfill their remarkable potential. It is seeking a Programs Volunteer to provide administrative support for its program for about 2-3 days (10-12 hours) per week.
Date: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays; register by 5/30

Spring Clean-Up and Planting
The Garden Club of New Rochelle is hosting a spring clean-up and planting afternoon at the Huguenot Children's Library. Volunteers will be reshaping the gardens and planting new plants. Please wear gloves, bring your favorite gardening tools, and wear gardening clothes and closed-toe shoes.

Spanish Interpreters
Spanish interpreters are needed to support the Fourth Fridays program for LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies in grades 9-12. Interpreters will assist with translation for teens and their caregivers and facilitate the conversation. Volunteers must be 18+ and fluent in both Spanish and English; dinner is provided for all volunteers.

Farmers Market Waste Warriors
At the weekly Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow (TaSH) Farmers Market, vendors serve food in compostable containers, which visitors are often unfamiliar with. Waste Warriors will teach them all about zero-waste options, such as composting and recycling, to help inspire them to make more eco-friendly choices at home.

Pegasus Gardening Club
Pegasus Gardeners help take care of the perennial gardens on the farm. Both beginner and experienced gardeners are welcome. The Pegasus Gardeners meet at the farm on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when the weather is suitable, and take part in all kinds of garden work including planting, weeding, mulching, pruning and more. The program is coordinated by a Master Gardener and employs organic gardening methods. Beginners can learn a lot, and the experienced can share their knowledge. Volunteers can be 16+.
