Winter Weather Advisory: Treacherous Morning Commute May Be In Store
The National Weather Service forecast is calling for freezing rain and icy roads for most of the Hudson Valley, starting overnight.
HUSDON VALLEY, NY — When the morning rush hour gets underway on Friday, much of the Hudson Valley will be under a Winter Weather Advisory.
A cold front will bring plunging temperatures and ice accumulation overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Freezing rain is expected to start at around 4 a.m. in most areas. Total ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch is forecast in some areas. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous, according to the NWS.

Commuters should plan on slippery road conditions through mid-afternoon when freezing rain will change to rain.
The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday for Northern Westchester, as well as Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, Orange and Rockland counties.

The NWS, meanwhile, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Southern Westchester. Spotty light freezing rain is possible Friday morning, before it changes over to rain by late morning. There may be some icy spots.
Officials are urging those in the affected areas to slow down and use caution while traveling, and be prepared for slippery roads. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways.
