6 Cats Found Safe After North Fork House Fire Sunday Night: Officials
One firefighter sustained a minor injury, officials say.

MATTITUCK, NY — Six cats were saved from a burning home in Mattituck Sunday night, officials said.
According to Mattituck Fire Department Chief Bobby Haas, the fire broke out at 7 p.m. in the chimney of the home and then extended to the exterior and interior of the second floor of the house.
"There was significant damage to the house," he said, adding that firefighters made a "quick stop" of the blaze. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with a minor medical issue, he said.

Multiple cats were able to escape the house during the fire, and one cat was safely evacuated by a fireman, he said; the homeowner later said on social media that all of the family's six cats were safe.
The Mattituck Fire Department was assisted by the Jamesport Fire Department's RIT team; the Cutchogue Fire Department and Southold Fire Department stood by at Mattituck Fire Department headquarters, he said.
