Car Fire Breaks Out On Route 48 In Southold: PD

The motorist saw smoke coming from his vehicle, police say.

NORTH FORK, NY — A car fire broke out in Southold Friday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Steve Grattan, a man was traveling on Route 48 near Town Beach in his pickup truck when he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment.

"He pulled the vehicle over and discovered the vehicle was on fire," Grattan said.

The Southold Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, Grattan said.

No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was towed from the scene, he said.
