EVENT: Making Dresses Out of Pillowcases for African Children

Greenport shop to host a pillowcase party for Africa.

Got an extra pillowcase? Stop by the White Weathered Barn on Front Street in Greenport before 4 p.m. on Monday and drop off your spare pillowcases for a dressmaking project to benefit children in Africa.

The Greenport boutique store is hosting a "pillowcase party" from 4 to 8 p.m., where those good with needle and sewing machine will create dresses for little girls to be shipped to African countries. The event is being co-organized by Marguerite Schondebare of the First Presbyterian Church of Southold.

White Weathered Barn owner Rena Wilhelm said that extra hands are also needed for cutting the material with scissors and ironing hems.
