MATTITUCK, NY — Five were arrested after a fight broke out in the parking lot of the Mattituck 7-Eleven on Thanksgiving Eve, leading to injured teens and property damage to a number of vehicles, according to police.

Southold Town Police Chief Steve Grattan told Patch that on Thanksgiving Eve around midnight, officers responded to a report of a fight in the parking lot of the Mattituck 7-11.

"The altercation involved a group of individuals from East Northport and Kings Park fighting with local individuals," Grattan said. "Most of the parties involved were juveniles. It is unclear what brought the two groups together."

On Monday, Southold Police said Michael Schulam, 18, of Kings Park was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony; four juveniles were also arrested, police said. The incident is being actively investigated, and further charges are pending, police said.

Earlier on Monday, Grattan told Patch that at least two of the juveniles, both 17 and from Kings Park and East Northport, were arrested and charged with assault.

Two of those injured were transported by their parents to hospitals to be treated, Grattan said.

Some parents reported that there were two separate altercations among younger and older teens, at the same parking lot on the same night, but that was not confirmed by police.

One parent told Patch that her son reported broken windows, kids, some minors, beaten and some injured, at least one with a concussion.

"It's awful," the parent said. "It makes you feel very vulnerable. This is supposed to be a safe little town. I never thought we would be at risk in Mattituck."

Another parent told Patch that there had been extensive property damage reported to a number of vehicles: "I only hope that despite their ages, they get held accountable to the full extent of the law," the parent said.
