'From Potatoes to Riches': Eater.com Dissects LI Wine History

Foodie website says Long Island Wine Country is a 'hot 19th-century growing region.'

Eater National, a foodie website dedicated to centralizing stories on the best in food and drink across the country, posted this week a spotlight on the wonders of New York State's two wine countries: the Finger Lakes upstate and our very own Long Island Wine Country.

Beginning with the efforts of the Hargraves, wine country pioneers in the early '70s, when the North Fork was still planted mostly with potatoes and vegetables, the article is a glimpse into the transformative history of this unique sliver of Long Island.

"Almost simultaneously, New York City's local and sustainable food movement began to inspire the urge — in both consumers and buyers — to source wine locally," said writer Talia Baiocchi.
