Hot Temperatures Headed Toward LI This Week: NWS
Baby, it's going to be hot outside, although an official heat wave has not been forecast for Long Island, National Weather Service says.
LONG ISLAND, NY — Baby, it's going to be hot outside: Although Long Island is technically not under a heat advisory, with no heat wave declared, the temperatures are expected to spike this week, officials said.
According to the National Weather Service, in order for an official heat wave to be declared, three or more consecutive days of 90-degrees or higher must be forecast.
On Monday, temperatures across Long Island are only expected to reach about 80 degrees, said David Stark, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office at Upton.

On Tuesday, temperatures, especially across western Long Island, are expected to reach the mid-80s, and then, rising to between 85 and 88 on Wednesday and Thursday, with possible temperatures of around 90 expected throughout northwestern Long Island.
Temperatures are expected to range between 90 and 93 degrees on Friday.

Still, when factoring in the heat index, or how hot it will actually feel with humidity, Stark said the heat index is expected to be about 90 degrees on Wednesday, 90 to 95 degrees on Thursday, and 95 to 98 degrees in the western parts of Long Island on Friday.
"The warmest day will be Friday," Stark said.
Although a heat wave is forecast for many inland areas across New York State, such as the lower Hudson Valley and New York City, "ocean winds should help to hold things down a bit" across Long Island, Stark said.
