The Center for Advocacy, Support & Transformation, or CAST, recently announced the appointment of Erica Steindl as its new executive director. A North Fork native and longtime educator, Steindl has served as CAST’s interim executive director since October, and has been a key member of the team since 2020, previously leading CAST’s education and outreach efforts, the organization said.

Steindl brings more than two decades of teaching experience, bilingual fluency in English and
Spanish, and a strong connection to the community she calls home. During her time at CAST, she
has played a central role in developing and expanding education programs for children and adults,
including the North Fork ParentChild+ Program, the North Fork Culinary Program, and CAST’s
dynamic Arts & Culture offerings.

"I am honored to officially step into the role of executive director and continue this important work alongside our dedicated team and community partners," said Steindl. "CAST has long been a constant in the lives of North Fork residents — especially in times of change and challenge. As we navigate complex issues like food insecurity, affordable housing, and economic hardship, I am committed to ensuring CAST remains a strong, compassionate, and adaptable support system for our neighbors."

Steindl succeeds Cathy Demeroto, who served as executive director from 2017 to 2024 and will
now continue her work at CAST as chief advancement officer.

"Erica has the heart, experience, and leadership to guide CAST through its next chapter," said Demeroto. "She has already demonstrated her ability to respond to the urgent needs of the community with creativity and compassion. I look forward to working alongside her in her new role and supporting CAST’s continued growth and impact."

According to CAST, Steindl’s "deep understanding of the North Fork’s evolving needs — along with her passion for education, equity, and community building — makes her uniquely qualified to lead CAST as it celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and looks to the future."

Since 1965, CAST has been serving vulnerable and low-income individuals and families on the North Fork of Long Island. CAST’s mission is to provide a safety net and promote self-sufficiency for North Fork and Shelter Island residents in need. CAST helps address food, housing, employment, and healthcare insecurity with dignity and compassion.
