This week, Peconic Landing announced the 13th Annual Veterans Day Wedding Giveback, hosted at Brecknock Hall. The not-for-profit organization is currently seeking applicants for the annual contest, which provides an "unforgettable" wedding experience each year to current or former military personnel in recognition of their service, thanks to the commitment of local businesses and area volunteers, event organizers said.

The event began in 2011 as an opportunity to thank Long Island’s military personnel and recognize them for their service to our country. Sponsored by Peconic Landing, the giveaway is made possible through contributions from local businesses and organizations who donate the time, talents, and services to create an all-expenses-paid wedding for one lucky couple.

The most recent winning couple was Chief Boatswain’s Mate First Class (BM1) Alexander "Alex" Padworski, 32, of Mattituck and Heather Tricoli, 34, of Richmond, Virginia. The couple was notified during a surprise announcement at Peconic Landing on May 15, 2024, with family members, Peconic Landing members, and Peconic Landing team members present.

Reflecting on their wedding day, Padworski and Tricoli said: "Thank you so much for giving us our dream wedding! To all the people that made this possible, thank you for the incredible support you show to the military, active and veteran. We are so thankful for you making this dream come true for us!"

This year’s winning couple will again be provided with a fully donated venue and a range of expertly curated wedding services accommodating up to 82 guests and taking place on Sunday, November 9 in celebration of Veterans Day.

The contest is open to both current and veteran service members; at least one partner must have served or be serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Applicants can click here to enter by April 5.

The winning couple will be chosen by a panel of Peconic Landing members with military ties, who judge the contest based on the number of years served, special military honors, and each couple’s personal love story. Couples must be available for a live or virtual interview to be considered for the contest.

"It is an honor to give back to those who have given so much in service to our country," said Robert Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing. "This initiative is made possible by the generosity of our community, and each year, we are moved by the heartfelt stories of military couples who inspire us with their dedication and sacrifice. We encourage all eligible service members to apply for this special opportunity, and we thank our local vendors for making these dream weddings a reality."

Vendors to date include Arni Paperie, Blooms by Design, By Hand Catering, East End Events Catering, Ever Eventful, Fresh Face Photo Booths, I Doll You Up/Stacey Peterson, JT Santini Photography, Long Island Ice & Fuel, McBurnie Tent, Riverhead Flower Shop, Sadie Bean Designs, Sugar Magnolias Flowers, and The Shoals Inn & Suites.

An estimated $65,000 worth of services and in-kind donations are contributed each year. Those wishing to contribute can contact Valerie Tirelli-Hallock, Brecknock Hall sales and events coordinator, at events@brecknockhall.com.
