Man Charged With DWI On North Fork Had Open Containers, Cocaine: PD
He ran a red light, crossed over the double yellow lines and sped through a school zone before he was apprehended in Cutchogue, police say.
CUTCHOGUE, NY — A Southold man was arrested Tuesday after speeding on a North Fork roadway while intoxicated with cocaine and multiple open containers in his vehicle, police said.
According to Southold Town police, at 2:27 p.m., Johnny Lopez Mijangos, 24, was arrested. Officers on patrol saw two vehicles, including a black, four-door Honda Civic, stopped at the eastbound light on Route 25 and Euguenes Road/Cox Lane in Cutchogue, police said. A driver told police that the driver in the black Honda Civic was "drunk," police said.
Police tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Lopez Mijangos refused to obey commands and proceeded to drive around the SUV in front of him, accelerating "aggressively," and crossing through a steady red light, police said.

The officer again attempted to conduct a traffic stop and activated the overhead lights, but Lopez Mijangos refused to stop and continued at a high rate of speed on Main Road, passing a school zone, refusing to obey the posted speed limits, and crossing over the double yellow lines multiple times, police said.
The officer was able to get him to stop on Peconic Lane in Peconic, police said. Lopez Mijangos was found to have multiple containers of opened alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle, police said.

In addition, Lopez Mijangos did not have a valid license due to previous alcohol-related offenses, police said. While conducting an investigation, Lopez Mijangos was also found to be in possession of small, clear baggies of a white powdery substance, which field tested positive for cocaine, police said.
Lopez Mijangos was found to be intoxicated and in possession of a controlled substance; he was arrested and charged with DWI, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and multiple traffic offenses, police said.
He was transported to Southold Town police headquarters for processing, police said.
